How do I make Nippy safe for work?
Open Settings (the round button on the home screen) and turn on Safe Word. You get the same weather with office-safe jokes, names and labels everywhere, including the voices and widgets.
In a hurry? Give your phone a firm shake. A shake only ever switches into Safe Word, never out of it. You can turn shaking off with Shake for Safe Word in Settings.
Why is Safe Word locked on?
Spicy mode is for adults. If the birthday you entered makes you under 18, or you chose “Rather not say”, Safe Word stays on.
The weather isn’t loading.
- Check you’re online. Nippy shows your last forecast while you’re offline.
- Check location is allowed: iPhone Settings › Nippy › Location › While Using the App.
- Or skip location entirely: in Nippy, open Settings › Location and search for a city.
If Apple Weather is having a moment, tap Try again. Still stuck? Email us.
How do I add a widget?
Home Screen: touch and hold an empty spot until the apps jiggle, tap Edit › Add Widget, choose Nippy and pick small or medium.
Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize › Lock Screen, tap the widget area and add Nippy.
If a widget says “Open the app to warm me up”, open Nippy once so it can fetch a forecast. Widgets use your current skin and edition.
How do I hear the forecast?
Touch and hold the big temperature. Choose your narrator in Settings › Voice: Daddy Doppler, Mistress Monsoon, Barometer Babe or Sir Cumulus (in Safe Word: Dr. Doppler, Ms. Monsoon, Barometer Betty and Captain Cumulus). Nippy plays sound even when your ringer is off, so turn off Sound in Settings if you’d rather it didn’t.
How do I change units?
Settings › Units. Choose °F with mph, or °C with km/h, m/s or mph.
How are my star signs worked out? Why no rising sign?
Nippy calculates where the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars were when you were born, on your phone. Adding your birth time makes the Moon sign more accurate, since the Moon changes sign every couple of days. A rising sign also needs your birthplace, which Nippy doesn’t ask for, so it isn’t shown.
How do I unlock more skins?
Four skins are available from the start. The rest unlock through play: land 25 clouds in one round of the mini-game, read your daily reading seven times, open Nippy under a full moon, and one secret that appears at a very particular temperature. Check Settings › Achievements for hints.
Can I turn off the vibrations?
Yes: Settings › Haptics.
Where does the weather come from?
Apple Weather. See Settings › Data source for Apple’s attribution and data sources.
How do I delete my data?
Everything Nippy knows is stored on your iPhone, so deleting the app deletes it. We don’t have a copy. See the privacy policy for details.
Is Nippy on iPad, Apple Watch or Android?
Nippy is made for iPhone and needs iOS 17 or later. It runs on iPad in iPhone compatibility mode. There’s no Android version.
How do I get a refund?
Purchases are handled by Apple. Request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Is Nippy explicit?
No. Spicy mode is suggestive, cheeky and full of innuendo, but never explicit, and it’s rated 18+. Safe Word mode is suitable for everyone.
